Privacy policy

ReelToIdea ("we", "us") is a Chrome extension and website operated by Muhammad Sadiq. This policy explains what data we handle and why. Short version: your swipe file stays in your browser, we use a Reel's audio only to transcribe it, and we never sell data.

What stays on your device

Your swipe file (saved Reels, notes, tags), your "My brand" details and your settings are stored in your browser using Chrome's extension storage. We cannot see them. Uninstalling the extension or using "Delete my swipe file" removes them.

What we receive when you press the button

• The Reel's audio, to turn speech into text. It is processed in memory and deleted straight after. We do not store audio or video.
• The Reel's public details: caption, creator username, length, view/like/comment counts and cover image, to write the breakdown.
• A random install ID created by the extension, to count your free daily uses. It is not linked to your name or Instagram account.
• Your license key, if you have bought Pro, to check your plan.
• A one-way hash of your IP address, kept for 48 hours, to stop abuse of the free plan.

We do not receive your Instagram password, cookies, messages, followers or browsing history. The extension only runs on instagram.com.

What we keep

• The transcript and breakdown of a public Reel may be cached for up to 30 days so the same Reel loads instantly next time. Caches are keyed by the Reel, not by you.
• Daily usage counters (install ID + date) are deleted after 48 hours; monthly Pro counters after 40 days.
• Basic server logs (errors, timings) for up to 30 days to keep the service working.

Who processes data for us

• Cloudflare hosts our server and runs the AI models that transcribe and analyse Reels.
• Polar (merchant of record) handles checkout, payments, taxes, receipts and license keys. We receive your email and plan status from Polar; we never see your card details.

When you choose "Open in ChatGPT", "Claude" or "Gemini", the prompt is sent to that service by your browser under their privacy policy, not ours.

What we never do

We don't sell or rent data, use it for advertising, or use it to decide credit-worthiness or lending. The use of information received from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your rights

You can ask us to access or delete data linked to your license key or email by writing to hello@reeltoidea.com. We reply within 30 days.

Children

ReelToIdea is not meant for anyone under 13 (or the minimum age for Instagram in your country).

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell Pro customers by email about important changes.
